Martin Bygate plenary speaker in BrisbaneDate: 26 May 2010 Martin Bygate will be giving a plenary lecture to the annual conference of the Applied Linguistics Association of Australia in Brisbane on 4 July 2010. His topic, Teaching and learning the task: the case for a holisic perspective on the dynamics of classroom tasks, will explore the potential of dynamic systems theory for conceptualising the range of linguistic challenges which learners can be set through the choice and use of tasks. Lancaster has been at the cutting edge of Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) for many years, hosting in 2009 the highly successful 3rd Biennial International Conference in TBLT, and much of Martin's work has been in this field. He isco-editor of a book series on TBLT with John Benjamins. While in Brisbane he will also be chairing meetings of the Board of theInternational Association of Applied Linguistics (AILA) of which he is currently President.
