A private two-hour meeting was held at the Ecumenical Christian College, Bangalore, in which The Most Revd. Dr Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury held discussions with traditional Hindu religious leaders (swami-s or acarya-s). Professor Chakravarthi Ram-Prasad (Politics, Philosophy and Religion) was invited to chair the meeting and structure the discussions. The private meeting covered a range of theological issues about the nature of the divine and the forms of worship in Hinduism and Christianity, as well as social issues about inter-religious relations in pluralist societies. This was followed by a public meeting, also chaired by Professor Ram-Prasad, attended by over 300 people, including Hindu and Christian students, dignitaries, and professionals from Bangalore's hi-tech companies. He directed questions from the audience to the religious figures; questions ranged from challenges facing inter-religious dialogue to the nature of the spiritual life. The event was widely reported in the Indian newspapers.
