PPR atDate: 2 February 2011 Dr Stuart Nicholls will be presenting his work at the"Promoting Health Equity: Action on the Social Determinants of Health" conference in Toronto. The work, co authored by Dr Kristin Voigt and colleagues within the IDEFICS study and titled "Price strategies and health inequalities: support for taxation of unhealthy foods among low-income groups in European countries", reports on and discusses the implications of parental attitude data relating to the potential use of price policies to address social inequalities in childhood obesity prevalence. The conference will address issues of children's rights in relation to health, food security and policy and health together with the reduction of health inequalities in at-risk populations and interventions for healthy social change. The IDEFICS Study has accomplished a huge cross-sectional baseline survey in over 16,000 children aged 2-9 years from eight European countries. This was followed by a targeted intervention and a follow-up survey to assess the impact of dietary and lifestyle changes on body weight and other health parameters. The Study is co-ordinated by Professor Wolfgang Ahrens of the Bremen Institute for Prevention Research and Social Medicine at Bremen University, Germany.
