The theme was: On Matricide and Culture This discussion will be structured around the argument of the contemporary feminist philospher Luce Irigaray that matricide is one of the dominant fantasies underlying western culture. How do fantasies of matricide impact on our discourses, narratives and social organisations? What are the meanings and effects of this matricidal culture on lived experience and social realities? Can interventions on the level of representation contribute to the dismantling of the current 'matricidal' socio-symbolic world? Chaired by Amber Jacobs.
