Disentangling Crisis Discourse

Date: 11 July 2012

The Workshop "Disentangling Crisis Discourse" sought to further understanding of how the financial crisis and its consequences are being communicated and constructed in public, political and everyday discourse. Scholars in discourse studies gathered at Lancaster University to discuss which concepts and tools in discourse analysis can help to cut through the jargon-laden buzz around the crisis. How systematic and rigorous analysis be applied to problematise what commentators, journalists, bloggers and even academics take for granted as fact and figure, necessity and truth, in UK and elsewhere? The workshop was conceived and co-organized by Amelie Kutter and sponsored by the Department of Sociology and the Department of English Language and Linguistics at Lancaster University.
