Lancaster Sociology ranked in world's top fifty sociology departments

The QS World University Rankings have ranked Lancaster's sociology department as one of the top fifty sociology departments in the world, and as one of the top ten in the UK.

QS have been ranking universities around the world since 2004, initially in collaboration with Times Higher Education, and have ranked universities by subject since 2011. The rankings are based on academic peer review, employer review and citations.

QS's 2012 overall ranking places Lancaster sociology as 47th in the world and 8th in the UK - but in terms of citations Lancaster sociology is in the top 20 of sociology departments in the world, with a citations-per-person index of 59.5.
