Research into Intercultural Professional Development for E-Learning

Date: 1 December 2006

This project is directed by Professor David McConnell (david.mcconnell@lancaster.ac.uk) and is funded by HEFCE. It is looking at intercultural (Sino-UK) pedagogy in higher education e-learning. The Lancaster team comprises two research associates, three consultants and a secretary. We are working with four universities in China: Beijing Normal University; Beijing Jiaotong University; Zhejiang Normal University and South China Normal University. There are three strands to the project: the development of an intercultural professional development online course in e-learning; the development of a tool for supporting collaborative learning and assessment; research into higher education teachers' conceptions of e-learning in both countries.

The project is Phase Two of a wider Sino-UK partnership in cultural change in learning and teaching, with the aim of developing greater understanding of the e-learning and teaching process in both countries.

General details of the HEFCE funded initiative can be found at: http://www.echinaprogramme.org

Details of the Lancaster project will be available on the CSALT web site soon.
