ESRC Studentships available for October 2008
Date: 18 January 2008 ESRC Quota Studentships in Linguistics and English Language at Lancaster, October 2008 The Department of Linguistics and English Language is the largest of its kind in England, with a full-time lecturing staff of 33, some 25 Research Associates, and c. 150 PhD students. It has excellent library holdings and a thriving research environment, organised around 4 Research Centres and 15 Research Groups. The Department has TWO Economic and Social Research Council quota studentships available for its PhD programmes, which have received 1+3 and +3 recognition, part time and full time. (The Department has an allocation of a further SIX spread between 2009 and 2010.) We welcome applicants from the UK and the EU in all ESRC-relevant areas of the linguistics and applied linguistics of English and any other language, but especially the following areas where supervisors currently have vacancies:
+3 awards are available for the PhD by Thesis Only. Applicants should hold an ESRC-recognised Masters in Linguistics or Applied Linguistics. 1+3 awards are available for those applying for the PhD by Thesis and Coursework, a part-time or full-time degree which is awarded on the basis of taught courses as well as a thesis. EU including UK citizens who have been resident in the UK for three years prior to the start of the award are eligible to receive the full grant - fee plus maintenance.
