Dr Maggie Mort joins the Department

Welcome to Dr Maggie Mort who joined the Department of Sociology on 1 August 2008.

Maggie says: My new job is seen as a three year project in which I'm working between Sociology and the new Division of Medicine. This means undertaking a combination of teaching and research which is aimed at increasing the awareness and profile of social sciences, and sociology in particular, within the medical degree curriculum, postgraduate medical education and health research. I believe there are all kinds of exciting possibilities and mutual benefits in this which I want to explore with colleagues and students. It was felt that a joint post would be the best way to give visibility and credibility to this endeavour - it's therefore very much a shared, rather than split post in that sense. It's complex, (partly because I've brought existing research projects and students with me) but I think it's going to be fun!
