New Book on Common Land by History Research AssociateDate: 10 October 2008 New book on common land by History Research Associate, October 2008 This month sees the publication of a new work on the history of common land by History Research Associate Ellie Straughton. The book, 'Common Grazing in the Northern English Uplands, 1800-1965', explores national policy and local management practices on common land since 1800, and is published by The Edwin Mellen Press. It is based on the thesis she produced while a doctoral student at Lancaster. Ellie is currently working with colleagues from Lancaster History Department and Newcastle Law School on the AHRC 'Contested Common Land Project'.
