New Work by Thomas Digges IdentifiedDate: 19 November 2007 An article by Dr Pumfrey will soon appear in the British Journal for the History of Science demonstrating that an anonymous pamphlet was in fact written by Thomas Digges (c.1545-1595), England's first supporter of Copernicus. Arguably, the pamphlet contains the first clear support in print for Copernicus, and also contains Digges' earliest observations and conclusions about "new star" (the Cassiopeia supernova) of 1572, supposedly the first to appear since the birth of Christ.
