New Director for the IAS

Date: 8 December 2008

Professor Bob Jessop, founding Director of the Institute for Advanced Studies, will stand down at the end of December 2008. Bob will continue to be based in the IAS as co-director of the new research centre, the Cultural Political Economy Research Centre.

From 1 January 2009 the new Director of the IAS will be Professor Michael Krätke. Michael has a multi-disciplinary background and for many years has been engaged in international inter- and post-disciplinary research, particularly in relation to the political economy. He is one of the leading Marx scholars, has extensive international linkages in Europe, China, Japan, Latin America and North America, an excellent research and publications record and is a member of several academies, learned societies and editorial boards. Michael also has wide-ranging teaching experience, an excellent record in postgraduate supervision as well as being fluent in several languages. He will also take up a chair in political economy in the university's department of sociology, devoting half of his time to the IAS. Michael is looking forward to building on the success and achievements of the IAS under Bob Jessop's vision and leadership.
