DELC football teams take part in Sauerkraut CupDate: 5 May 2010 Staff and students from the Department of European Languages & Cultures took part in the Sauerkraut Cup in Manchester on Saturday 1 May. The Sauerkraut Cup is an annual football tournament involving German departments from up and down the country. This year there was also a team from the German Embassy in London and a squad from Germany's very own 'Autorennationalmannschaft', the 'Autonama' (a team of football-enthusiastic German writers officially associated with the DFB, the German Football Association). DELC provided two teams at this year's tournament. Although the Lancaster participants did not bring the Sauerkraut Cup to Lancaster this year, they enjoyed the experience tremendously and THEY DID WIN second prize in the fan song competition (in German) for their football chant composed by Nick Peat, a final-year student. The event marked the end of a very exciting week in the German section since the German author Uli Hannemann (a member of the 'Autonama' football team) came to Lancaster to give a reading on Thursday 29 April which was very successful and enjoyable.
