CeMoRe Seminar - The Actions of DriversDate: 18 November 2008 Time: 4.15 pm Venue: IAS Meeting Room 1 "The actions of drivers - between legal norms and practice"- Anette Jerup, Aalborg University, Institute for Sociology, Social Work and Organisation / CeMoRe Visitor In this presentation I would like to discuss the legal consciousness of drivers and how it influences the way drivers account for their actions in practice. In most western countries driving practices are constituted by legal norms. However, legal norms do not constitute driving practices fully, it is constituted by the way drivers bring legal norms into play in their interpretations of specific situations. The aim of the presentation is to trace the ways that institutional, cultural, material, and social frames influence how drivers reason their own actions. I exemplify the theoretical reflections with empirical data from my qualitative study of the accounts Danish drivers use when reasoning their own more or less law abiding actions.
