Care work in focus workshopDate: 19 July 2010 Time: 9.00am - 6.00pm Venue: IAS Meeting rooms 2 & 3 The changing nature of work in care sectors Care work is of major public concern and a growing area of interest in academia. How we manage the tensions of caring for an increasingly ageing population, young children and those with disabilities, in both practice and research, has become a major dilemma in all spheres of society. Care workers, however, are often left out of the picture in spite of their important role in delivering care. This workshop will bring together scholars, care practitioners, and the public to explore the changing nature of care work will be of major importance for policy and practice. Speakers will include: Professor Christine Milligan (DHR), Professor Eileen Boris (University of California Santa Barbara), Dr. Rosie Cox (Birkbeck College), Professor Sally Sambrook (Bangor University), Sharon Holder (GMB National Officer, Public Services Section), Lesley Gill (Workforce Development Officer, Care Sector Alliance Cumbria), Sue Clacy (experienced Care Home Manager), Lesley Harper (Centre for Training and Development) [CETAD] and East Lancashire NHS Trusts, and more practitioner speakers (TBA).
