Additional resources for doctoral students, related to the North West Doctoral Training CentreIn addition to the modules offered by the RTP, there are a number of other resources and courses you can access. Most of these are made available through Lancaster’s role in the ESRC-funded North West Doctoral Training Centre (DTC). The DTC enables close cooperation between the Universities of Lancaster, Liverpool and Manchester on research training for doctoral students. Methods NorthWestThe DTC's website, Methods NorthWest, shows the depth and breadth of methodological expertise in the social sciences within the constituent universities. It promotes and facilitates methodological excellence, innovation and inter-disciplinarity - within and beyond the social sciences. There are events aimed primarily at doctoral students throughout the year. These events provide something a little different to the standards methods training. This spring, Methods NorthWest is running a series of six doctoral research clinics for PhD students on various aspects of doing a PhD. These clinics are available to all PhD students registered at Lancaster, Liverpool or Manchester Universities. For more information about the clinics, several of which take place at Lancaster, see http://www.methodsnorthwest.ac.uk/mnw_events/ The three universities also have individual methods websites: methods@lancastermethods@lancaster is a place for sharing multi-disciplinary research methodology, statistical training courses and other useful resources for doctoral students. Have a look at some of the short videos, presentations and papers available through this site. The site was put together to support PhD students carrying out research and who want to learn about specific methodologies. engage@liverpoolengage@liverpool is the University of Liverpool's contribution to Methods NorthWest. engage@liverpool is a cross-faculty research methods initiative which highlights the University of Liverpool's strength in engaged research and promotes methodological innovation, development, discussion and reflection. engage@liverpool hosts and promotes methods-related events and activities, including training. methods@manchestermethods@manchester is the website for research methods in the social sciences in Manchester. It highlights the depth and breadth of methodological expertise in the social sciences at the University of Manchester. The site includes online resources on a variety of topics relevant to the range of methods used in the social sciences. |
