Opening Plenary at 'Constructing the Nation'Date: 15 July 2012 Allyson Fiddler was asked to give the opening plenary lecture at the 'Constructing the Nation' even at Swansea University. The Colloquium set out to ask: "what has literature in German been saying lately about nations, nationalisms, and nationalism's 'others': globalism, Europeanism, Atlanticism, cosmopolitanism, provincialism, political religion, or 'unpolitical' attitudes?" Contributors were invited to interpret their chosen novels, dramas, volumes of poetry, films (or in Allyson's case, works of music...) as metaphors / narratives of the twenty-first century nation.
