Language Variation and Linguistic Theory

This research group is the result of a merger between two others, Research in Theoretical Linguistics and Phonetics, Phonology, Variation.  The merger came about as a reflection of a current state of the art in linguistics: within language variation and change there’s an increasing interest in linguistic theory, while theoretical linguists are also becoming more and more open to the idea of taking variation seriously, sometimes even making variation the very backbone of their theory of language. Focussing on this intersection, our sessions will be devoted to presentations by scholars from within and outside the Department, as well as to discussions of relevant scholarly publications and the planning of research projects.

Our regular meeting slot is Thursday 12-1, usually in County South C89 (which is also called 'Meeting Room 7').  Follow the 'Events' link on the left for information about forthcoming talks.

Everyone with an interest in language variation and/or linguistic theory is welcome.
