Welcome to Local and Regional History
The Department of History has a long track record of research and supervision in the field of Local and Regional History. Several members of the Department use north-west England as the 'laboratory' in which they pursue research into a range of historical periods and themes. Close links are maintained with local history societies and other bodies in the regional commnuity involved in the history of the region. There is a strong and vibrant tradition of work in the local and regional history in the department's postgraduate research community and opportunities to carry out research into the history of the region are also provided by the MA in History programme. The Department maintains close links with the Centre for North West Regional Studies, which disseminates research through its publications series, its courses and its annual programme of study days and conferences.
