Research Interests

My research is motivated by a concern for migrants and an interest in how power is exerted over them. As resultI have become interested in what forces seek to influence the volitional conduct of a range of actors involved in migration, from immigration officersand detention centre staff to asylum activists and third sector support organisations. I use a mixture of post-structural political economy and a range of insights relating to the relationship between imagined and real geographies to think about the ways in whichthese powerful actors areaffected by the spaces, places, times and mobilities within which they are located. My work aims to be critical, policy relevant, theoreticaly engaged and empirically informed.
