Mobilties.Lab Equipment

Mobilties.Lab has been successful in attracting £50,000 of funding from Lancaster University's Equipment fund, granted in two stages £30,000 in 2014/15 and £20,000 in 2015/16 (subject to availability).

At the heart of this bid is equipment that supports doing research on the move and processing the results for analysis, public engagement and dissemination, including:

• a high spec desktop computer for video editing (Adobe software) situated in the mobilities.lab,

• laptop computers to facilitate analysis and presentation on the move,

• a set of iPads & iPad mini's for mobile data collection and workshops with mobile research apps,

• digital video cameras,

• GoPro cameras,

• microphones, tripods, camera cases,

• external storage for data.

Rationale for use: Mobile Methods enable methodological advances in the social sciences, humanities and arts. Existing, highly interdisciplinary projects depend on Mobilties Lab equipment (e.g. BRIDGE, SecInCoRe, Livable Cities, DEMAND, ESRC CASE studentship with the Mass Observation Library (Albert)), and a range of bids are being developed. We are currently purchasing equipment. The lab's equipment is also available for staff and students.
