Dr Ewan Johnson
AHRC Research Associate Current TeachingHIST211 Research InterestsI am interested in all aspects of the creation, re-creation and maintenance of elite identities in the medieval West from c.900-c.1300. More specifically, I have researched ethnic identities in Normandy, Sicily, England and the Crusader states; and their interaction with gender and status-based identities in England and Normandy. I am at present preparing a book, Norman Identities after 1154, concentrating on the interaction between law and ethnicity in Britain and Normandy between 1154 and 1272. I am also co-editing, with Linsey Hunter (St Andrews) a volume on Law and the Life Cycle 1000-1500. I am part of the department's internal reading group on the Norman world of the twelfth century.
