Judith Lloyd-JonesHistory Major, Graduated 2011
Although the jump from A-Levels to university is great, I always found the staff friendly, approachable and more than willing to help. The third year was particularly daunting as I faced new challenges as a historian, particularly in the form of the dissertation and the special subject. But writing 10,000 words for the dissertation came easily because I was passionate about my chosen topic. With the support of my tutors I was able to achieve my potential and have now graduated with a first-class honours degree. Throughout my three years at Lancaster University I found my social life just as fulfilling as the academic. The volunteering unit, Involve, gave me the opportunity to work as a maths ‘buddy’ in a local primary school during my first year, an experience which I found very rewarding. This coming September I am looking forward to volunteering in India for three weeks with Involve. I have been a member of the fencing club and the University korfball team (a sport I had never even heard of before coming to university!). I also found the time to spend many a memorable night in the Student Union club, the Sugarhouse. I have never regretted deciding to study history at Lancaster University and would recommend the department and university to anyone! |
