Rose-Marie PhillipsHistory Major, Graduated 2007
My first year at Lancaster passed in a blur but I value all of my experiences. I found the History Department to be very friendly and helpful and I couldn't wait to start the History courses that I had chosen for my second year. I wasn't disappointed with my choices; I thoroughly enjoyed all of them. However, I did find that I had to work a lot harder in my second year that I had in my first. At the end of the first term there were four essay deadlines to meet, and I will admit that there were a few tears and a lot of late nights. But the Department were very supportive during my many moments of self-doubt and panic; everyone was always willing to help. In the third year you choose a special subject. I thought disaster had struck when I discovered that the course I had chosen really wasn't for me. However, everyone was very supportive and that very same day I was transferred onto a different special subject course. The rest of my third year flew by as I tackled the task of writing my dissertation. My dissertation tutor was very helpful, answering all of my seemingly endless questions and assuring me that I wasn't going to fail! I am now at Worcester University studying for a Secondary PGCE. I am grateful to the History Department for their support during my three years and the opportunities that are now open to me now that I have gained my degree. |
