HIST414: Approaches to Cultural History

Course Tutor: Professor Mercedes Camino

Teaching: Lent Term

This module will explore the development of Cultural History from the 1970s onwards, paying particular attention to approaches which intersect with other fields, including social history, cultural studies, geography, anthropology, postcolonialism, feminism and memory studies. Historical periods and events to be investigated will be drawn from the tutor's and students' expertise and interests and will range from early modern exploration to twenty-first century events commemorating the past. The course will engage with historical events and 'artifacts', including commemorations, museums and cultural heritage, billboards and films.

Assessment: One seminar presentation related to one of the module topics (25%) and an essay of 4-5,000 words (75%) on a subject to be agreed with the course tutor.
