- The experience of such conflicts for civilian and military personnel involved.
- The attempts to establish peace and stability in post-conflict environments.
- The emergence of modern forms of tactics and technologies of warfare.
- The development of military and civilian aviation.
- The evolution of US foreign policy, especially since 1945.
- Post-Cold War attempts to build a new international system.
- The transportation and industrial landscapes of both banks of the river Mersey.
- Family history, especially in relation to new technologies and recently available archives.
- History of the Warburton and Dennett families in Lancashire and Cheshire.
