Bob DillonDate: 2 November 2007 Congratulations to Bob Dillon for successfully submitting his PhD thesis on 'Manufacturing the past: Collective memory and the commodification of history as popular culture on British television'. The aim ofBob's thesis was to identify how history functions as a television discourse and in whose interest it recreates a very stylised and singular view of the past.Bob's fundamental question of how much and how far collective memory influences and controls the production of history on British television.Bob's external examiner, James Chapman, Professor of Film Studies at the University of Leicester, was so impressed that Bob passed the final hurdle with flying colours.
