Journal of Arabic and Islamic Studies

THE JOURNAL OF ARABIC AND ISLAMIC STUDIES (http://www.lancs.ac.uk/jais) is pleased to announce the recent publication of 12 articles covering a wide range of topics from linguistic studies of Gulf Arabic to grammatical theory; diplomatics, epistolography and rhetoric, aesthetics and contruction law; sedentary and bedouin dialects; the modern Arabic poetry of Mahmud Darwish; notions of 'conscience'in Arabic, terms for 'weapon' in idioms, and processes of secularization in the Muslim Brotherhood. The online section of the journal is free access to all; it receives over 400,000 hits per year. On paper, the journal is published by Edinburgh University Press. The editor is Alex Metcalfe fromthe Department of History.
