Dariusz Gafijczuk awarded Newton International FellowshipDate: 7 November 2008 The Department of History, Lancaster University, is extremely pleased to announce that Dariusz Gafijczuk has been awarded a Newton International Fellowship. Dariusz will soon be joining the Department as a postdoctoral researcher and over the next two years he will be working on 'The Ruins of Mitteleuropa: An Investigation into the Cultural Blueprints of the Centre' (for details of the project, see Dariusz's web-page).The Newton International Fellowships, which are awarded jointly by the British Academy, the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Royal Society, are very prestigious and competitive; the applications are evaluated according to the merits of the project proposed, the applicant's and their academic sponsor's achievements, and the standing of the host institution, so we should congratulate not just Dariusz himself, but also Professor Derek Sayer and the department for a job very well done.
