Dianne Lawrence successfully defends thesisDate: 18 March 2009 Congratulations to Dianne Lawrence for successfully defending her doctoral thesis on 'Material Culture and the Transfer of Female Gentility to the British Empire during the latter half of the nineteenth century'. The project investigated how female subjectivities, as expressed in dress, living-rooms, gardens and food, were adapted and modified by colonial circumstances. John MacKenzie was the external examiner. The supervisors were Dr Sarah Barber and Dr Stephen Constantine.
