Rowntree's Life-CycleDate: 7 July 2009 John Welshman will be giving a paper, 'Rowntree's Life Cycle and Dynamic Approaches to Poverty', at the Symposium 'Poverty in Depth: New International Perspectives', organised by the York Archaeological Trust, in York, 6-8 July 2009. It has often been suggested that one of the main innovations in the first survey of York was Rowntree's emphasis on the life-cycle. On the other hand, interest in the life cycle fell away in the interwar period. The paper explores interest in poverty and the life cycle since Rowntree, notably inter-generational studies, given the current emphasis on poverty dynamics in both policy and research.
