HIST275: The Politics of Reproduction, 1800 to the Present

Babies in BottlesSex is a most private matter. How then did it become a matter of public concern? How did it become a matter of the most intense and most intrusive political regulation? This course seeks to answer these basic questions by introducing you to topics as diverse as the arguments over the spread of disease in the crowded Victorian city and the importance of eugenic considerations to the development of contemporary genetic understanding of disease.
