A student's experience of studying History at Part I

Part I History at Lancaster has been a thoroughly enjoyable experience. There are many great aspects of the course as a whole, and it is difficult to fault; the teaching and support staff really know their subjects, the course is well structured and interesting, and the support networks in place are fantastic. I found it really useful to be given a 'taster' of a number of different seminar topics, as having not studied History above GCSE level, and having never studied medieval and pre-modern periods, I didn't know that these periods were actually where my interest lies; without the broad range of topics within HIST100 I would have missed out on something I really enjoy.

The passion that the staff have for their particular fields is infectious, and throughout HIST100, I found myself wanting to know more after my lectures, which is a sign of really good teaching!! I found it consistently easy to contact members of staff, and felt that they always had time for me when I needed help, which really boosted my confidence when I was at a loss.

HIST100 as a course is hard work and requires commitment and effort, but also interesting, challenging and enjoyable. It has provided a fantastic basis for the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in and enjoy Part II.
