Visiting the History Department

We offer you several ways of seeing the department, campus, and student life here for yourself.

University Visit Days for Prospective Applicants

The next two Visit Days will take place on Wednesday 29 August and Saturday 22 September 2012.

Visit Days are primarily for students about to enter the upper sixth, or those wanting to look around before joining us in the autumn. The whole campus will be open to you: there will be organised tours, and departments such as History will be putting on special talks. For further details, or to register your attendance, please contact the Schools and Colleges Liaison Office.

Open Days for Current Applicants

These Open Days are organised by the Department of History. They are primarily intended for applicants to whom we have already made an offer, but others are also welcome. Importantly, they also are organised very differently to the above University Visit Days, especially insofar as they offer an opportunity to meet our students, so that we strongly encourage successful applicants to attend them, even if they have already attended a University Visit Day. The Open Days run from about 2.00 pm until 4.30 pm, and the dates for applicants applying during 2011-2012 are:

  • Saturday, 11 February 2012
  • Wednesday, 15 February 2012
  • Wednesday, 29 February 2012
  • Saturday, 3 March 2012

A similar series of days will be held on roughly the same dates in 2013.

Travel Details for Open Days

For travel details for those of you who have received an offer of a place to study with us, and who have booked to come to one of our upcoming Open Days, please view the campus map. Student helpers will be around campus, helping to direct visitors to their destinations. There will be minibuses transporting people from car parks to the Chaplaincy Centre, or you may choose to walk instead. History Tour Guides will be conducting visitors from the Chaplaincy Centre to the FASS Building (Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences), ground floor reception, where History Department representatives will be waiting to sign you in and conduct you to a lecture theatre for your presentation. We look forward to meeting you.

Drop-In Sessions

These are for people considering applying to study at Lancaster, or for those who have already decided to come and who want to see more of the campus and the department. You get a talk on student life at Lancaster, a guided tour of the campus with current students, a presentation featuring History staff and students, and the chance to ask any questions you might have. They run from 1pm to 4pm on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, 28 March 2012

Further dates will be displayed here in due course. Visit the University Campus Tour pages to find out more and to book your place.

Campus Tours

On alternate Wednesdays through the majority of the year, guided tours of the campus are organised, leaving from the Library entrance 1.00pm. Further information about tours.

Online Tours

Watch short online films for prospective students or take a virtual campus tour.
