Formalism and the Sources of International Law

Prof. Jean d'Aspremont has been Chair of Public International Law at the University of Manchester since 1 January 2013. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Leiden Journal of International Law. He acted as counsel in proceedings before the International Court of Justice.

He previously was Associate Professor of International Law at the University of Amsterdam where he keeps a limited appointment. He also was Adjunct Director of the Amsterdam Research Institute for Legal Studies (ARILS). He used to be Guest Professor at the University of Louvain as well as the University of Lille. Before moving to Amsterdam, hewas Assistant Professor of International Law at the University of Leiden and Director of the LL.M. in Public International Law.He received his LL.M. from the University of Cambridge and his Ph.D. from the University of Louvain. In 2005-06, he was a Global Research Fellowat New York University (NYU), affiliated with the Institute of International Law and Justice (IILJ).
