Research Interests

Dr Mark Butler's research interests are centred on UK employment law and EU Labour law, with a particular emphasis on employee rights.

Currently he is conducting research in the area of age discrimination, viewing the protections afforded to workers through comparative analysis. The primary focus of his research is on the position of the age discrimination protections in the context of retirement.

Potential Doctoral Proposals

EU Labour Law: Free Movement of Workers, Discrimination law, the rights of employees to participate in management decisions, Health and Safety, family-friendly rights, and social policy.

UK Employment Law: any aspect of UK employment law will be considered on the strength of the application.

Consultancy and Training

Dr Butler is willing to undertake consultancy in relation to organising employment relationships, maintaining such relationships, and employment disputes. He is also willing to provide tailored training courses in relation to employment law, discrimination law, and the resolution ofemployment disputes.

Media Comment

Dr Butler is willing to provide comment for the press and other media in respect of employment law,discrimination law, worker rights andEuropean Union law. He currently writes employment law updates for the Whitehaven News.
