International Students

Lancaster University has a high proportion of students from outside the EU - approximately 25% in fact. The vast majority of our LLM Taught Programmes students are from outside the UK, mostly from outside the EU. We also have a small but growing number of law undergraduates from non-EU countries, especially those in which the legal system is, like that of England & Wales, a common law system.

Common law (or partially common law) jurisdictions include: Australia, Canada, the Channel Islands, Cyprus, England & Wales, Ghana, Hong Kong, India, Republic of Ireland, Kenya, Malaysia, Malta, New Zealand, Nigeria, Northern Ireland, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, the United States of America, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and a number of others, especially in the Caribbean. England & Wales is also a highly favoured jurisdiction of choice (where parties in two states choose to have their contracts governed by the law of a third jurisdiction), especially in the maritime and commercial fields. An education in English law is therefore found relevant by students from many parts of the world and with widely differing career aims.

Please note it is not necessary for you to have taken a Law Degree to apply for the postgraduate courses.

Please visit the University International Students pages and the University Postgraduate pages for more information.

The University makes excellent provision for overseas students in terms of accommodation, welfare, advice, and English language tuition. More details can be found on the pages of the University's International Office.
