LLM in International Human Rights and Terrorism LawThe programme aims to provide a bridge from undergraduate level studies (or equivalent professional experience) to research, focusing on a distinct although relatively broad specialism. The required courses, combined with appropriate options, lay a strong foundation in the basics of international human rights and terrorism law, are of increasing importance today. The coursework requirements would develop research skills, and lay a basis for the dissertation, which is the main assessed component of the programme. Graduates completing the programme be equipped to engage in more specialised practical or academic research in this field. Students are normally required to take all four of the designated Core Course Modules, depending on their previous studies or knowledge. They must take five course modules in all, plus a dissertation. The course modules offered within this programme are listed below. In addition, students may take one ( with permission of the Director of Postgraduate Studies) modules, from among those offered within the Law School's graduate programme, or any Master's modules of comparable weight offered in the Social Science Faculty or the University as a whole. However, for this degree, a minimum of 80% of the weighting must be in law. Students wishing to take a greater weighting of non-law courses should consider the parallel degree course in International Law & International Relations, which offers most of the same law modules, with a wider range of options in international relations. Please note that not all courses are available every year. Which are offered will depend both on the availability of staff (which is normally known by May for the following October), as well as the numbers of students enrolling for the programme and for each module (which often is not defined until the beginning of the academic year, in October).
