Stephen RileyAwared PhD 2005
As for me: I'm completing my doctorate at the moment ('A Phenomenology of International Criminal Justice', I'm not sure what it means either) under the supervision of Prof Peter Rowe and Dr David Seymour (both of whom I commend without reservation to those interested in doing international criminal or critical research) and until that's available in all good bookshops I highly recommend my 'Harm and Transgression in International Criminal Justice' in Minding Evil: Explorations of Human Iniquity, (ed. Sönser-Breen), The Hague: Rodopi Press, (forthcoming, Autumn 2005). In 2004 I established a forum for research students to present work-in-progress to their peers; this has contributed to an increasingly close-knit research community (and has meant that we've all learnt about a whole lot of stuff we didn't know anything about). We also meet informally: honestly, law researchers can relax. The law school has some world-class academics offering expertise in a range of research areas, with particular strengths in international law, and the socio-legal, gender and critical fields. Visiting scholars often brave the Northern climes to present here, and members of staff themselves present work-in-progress. For a stimulating environment, where research is given the time and support it needs, Lancaster University Law School is, well, a classy little number. |
