Law 202- Introduction to Property Law(Half Unit in the 1st Term) ConvenorDr David Seymour This course introduces the basic concepts, issues and themes of property law and Equity and their historical development. It will make particular reference to various contrasting interpretations of the reforms of property law in 1925. It examines different models for defining, analysing and criticising the subject-matter of property law including formalism and various laws in context approaches. The course also discusses the ideological dimensions and consequences of the legal regulation of property relations. It will also examine how the interpretation of the broad principles and imagery of equity, such as justice and good conscience, have facilitated and continue to enable doctrinal innovation particularly in the contexts of confidentiality, cohabitees, deserted wives' equity and commercial loans. The course is a pre-requisite to the study of property law units Law 203, Law 214 (This course is compulsory for Law Major students and is recommended for 2nd year students.
