Law 257 - International Law I

(Half Unit in 1st term)

An introduction to international law, and to some current international legal topics. It will cover the nature and sources of international law, its relationship to national and transnational law, statehood, self-determination and independence, sovereignty and jurisdiction; and two substantive topics: the law of the sea, international environmental law.

(This foundation course is a pre-requisite for other courses on international law and is available to 2nd and final year students).

Assessment

Coursework 50%, Exam 50%
