Law 323 - International Mooting

This course will involve students joining the Lancaster University Team for the Philip C. Jessup Moot Court Competition.

The Philip C. Jessup Prize is a major mooting competition in the field of international law, whose national rounds take place every year in London, and an international final in Washington D.C. The competition involves four students, who divide into two teams of two and argue either side of a fictional court case. This involves, first, written memorials, laying out the legal position of each party, and, second, oral presentations on behalf of the two sides in a mock courtroom setting. Admission to the course will be by selection to the team on the basis of a presentation by the Jessup Moot Court Selection Panel in the Summer Term.

This course is available for final year students only.

Assessment

Two written memorials of 10,000 words (the work of 4 students) 70%, Individual oral presentations 30%
