Dr Sarah Beresford

Lecturer in Law, Peer Reviewer for The Alternative Law Journal and The Griffith Law Review

Sarah’s research interests are focused on Gender, Sexuality and the Law in the context of Family Law, and Society and Religion and the Law.

Sarah has contributed to a number of books on these areas of her research. She authored "Guardianship in relation to Children" and "Guardianship in relation to Persons with Mental Incapacity" in Peter Crane, Joanne Conaghan (eds.) New Oxford Companion to Law, Oxford University Press (2008). She also co-edited Legal Queries with Moran, L, and Monk, D. (Cassell, 1998). Sarah also contributed a chapter to this book titled ‘The lesbian mother: questions of gender and sexual identity’ (pp. 57-67). Legal Queries takes ‘law reform beyond the traditional confines of decriminalisation, this text explores issues in sexuality, gender and the law, using examples from continental Europe to the southern hemisphere. It aims to open new perspectives on the way lesbians, gays and transsexuals are represented in society’ (Amazon.com book description).  Sarah also wrote a chapter “Femininity, sexuality and identity in law” in Cosslett, T et al (eds.) Women, Power and Resistance: An Introduction to Women's Studies, Buckingham, Open University Press (1996, reprinted 2001).

Sarah is currently in negotiation with Routledge for a monograph (titled International Child Relocation: Competing Interests and Competing Rights).
