About Our Research

The School has a strong research culture, as evidenced by consistently high performance in Research Assessment Exercises. In RAE 2008, 90% of the Schools' research was rated as being "world leading", "internationally excellent" or "internationally recognized", with 100% of research-active staff (22 out of 24 total staff) being included. Our research is characterised by commitment to interdisciplinarity and is focused in the following three areas:

  • Law and society - with subfields in Medical law; cyber law; criminal justice; critical legal theory; jurisprudence; legal history; public law and property law
  • International/European law - with subfields in public international law; private international law; international human rights law; international humanitarian law; comparative law; international economic law; european law; eu labour law; judicial independence & accountability
  • Business law - with subfields in competition law; corporate law (national and international); insolvency law; contract law; inter-jurisdictional litigation and employment law

In all three areas colleagues' research is informed by a range of perspectives and methodologies including doctrinal analysis, socio-legal approaches, critical perspectives, and comparative insights.

The School's academic community is centred around the Centre for Law and Sociey; and have strong links to the following interdisciplinary research environments:
