LICA401 Critical Thinking is taught as part of MA Contemporary Arts (Consultancy pathway only) and MA by Research

Details

The module is designed to foster critical reading, thinking and writing skills. Supported by regular individual tutorials with their departmental supervisor that orient these skills towards specific project-related content, students will develop an enhanced and critical understanding of their chosen field and a heightened awareness of how their own projects relate to contemporary thinking in this area.

Aims and Outcomes

This module aims to:

  • Develop students' ability to engage critically with the relevant theory and concepts relating to their chosen subject area
  • Provide students with skills needed to analyse critically texts and other sources and develop a critical discussion concepts and theories relevant to their chosen subject area
  • Enable students to develop a critical understanding of how their project relates to contemporary thinking

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:

  • situate themselves critically within their chosen field
  • show awareness of recent critical debates in their chosen field
  • demonstrate familiarity, where relevant, with works or practices relevant to their own research
  • determine and locate the sources necessary for a contextualisation of their own work
