I joined Lancaster University in 2003 after completing my PhD in the Interdisciplinary Centre for Scientific Research in Music (ISCRiM) at the School of Music, University of Leeds.
My academic interests are interdisciplinary in the areas of Performance Practice, Music Psychology and Cognition, Digital Signal Processing and Programming. My academic specialism is in Musical Timbre Analysis and the generation musical metadata/automatic descriptors of music.
I am also an oboist (baroque and modern) and saxophonist and regularly perform with the Leeds Baroque Orchestra.
My work at Lancaster is varied and challenging, drawing on both my technical and musical expertise. I oversee all the computing labs and music technology resources and Macintosh system administrator for FASS. I have also lectured on the Digital Audio and Sonology and Psychoacoustics courses at LICA.
