Research Interests

My research interests include approaches to film aesthetics, in particular neoformalism and historical poetics; studies of individual film authors; Hong Kong cinema and Asian filmmaking in general; and American independent and mainstream cinema. I am Editor-in-Chief of Asian Cinema journal (published bi-annually). My recent and forthcoming publications include:
