We are recognised for undertaking innovative and high quality undergraduate teaching and learning in the contemporary arts. Our courses combine practice-based, creative explorations with theorisation of the contemporary arts and performance. We aim to develop graduates that are informed practitioners – the contemporary artist who not only creates resonant works, but is also able to understand their practice critically, conceptually and historically and works independently and collaboratively. In order to foster informed practitioners, a mix of theory and practice is common to all our teaching.
Our undergraduate degrees provide students with a grounding from which further work, whether independent, collaborative, or interdisciplinary, can be pursued. We have a commitment to research-led teaching that is reflected in the belief that our courses should be taught by staff who are informed by recent developments in their specialised subjects. The professional standing of staff members is reflected in the national and international dissemination of their research writings and practice.
