LICA offers combined honours degrees in the following areas:
Do you enjoy more than one type of creative expression? Are you unsure which you most enjoy? Do you want to study more than one art discipline to a high level? Then the Bachelors degree in Creative Arts at Lancaster is perfect for you.
This degree offers you the chance to study two art disciplines combining both artistic practice and theory, giving you both creative and analytical skills. This degree will also give you a conceptual understanding of the social and cultural context, in which artistic expression is appreciated and valued. This type of study will develop your creative talent and confidence, which will help in any career path you may wish to take.
At Lancaster University we pride ourselves in providing modern spaces for our Art, Music, and Theatre Studies students within the Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts (LICA). This purpose built space allows contemporary, interdisciplinary and cross-arts practice in an inspiring and stimulating environment.
A-levels: ABB. Depending on your specialisations you will need to satisfy requirements for two of the art forms, as below.
Give details of all of your arts activities in Section 8 of your UCAS application and indicate your first and second subject for study in Section 3 (as indicated in the UCAS Handbook.
Combined honours degrees in music are designed for students who have strengths in two subjects which they wish to continue to study in depth throughout their degree. At Lancaster University, Music forms part of established combined honours courses with English Literature, History, French Studies, German Studies, Italian Studies, Spanish Studies, and Computer Science. Other combinations can be created for you individually, as long as timetables do not clash. If you opt for a combined honours degree involving a foreign language, your degree will cover four years, involving a year abroad. This year abroad may be at a conservatoire: links have been established with the Conservatorio G.B. Martini (Bologna, Italy) and Lyon (France). Please contact the admissions tutor for further information.
Combined honours schemes involving Music are often particularly attractive to people considering a career in teaching, either at primary or secondary level, but they also provide a foundation for many other careers, such as music journalism, music librarianship, publishing, media, arts administration, communications, business and professional services.
Combined honours students take one module of Music in the first year. In the second and final year, you take four units in Music and four in your other subject. Your Music units can be chosen from a variety of options; they involve a core element of creative, analytical or historical topics, and may also include courses such as music psychology, sound and space, and the enterprise unit.
