Using the Mailing List

Subscribing to the LaSTNet Mailing List

LaSTNet uses the Majordomo mail-explosion mass-mailing system to power its email list. For users, it is a very simple system for disseminating information to everyone on the list, please see the page on 'emailing the mailing list' for further information.
Subscribing is quick and easy - just follow the instructions below.

• Send an email requesting subscription containing your name, institutional affiliation and email address to Tom Webb at lastnet@lancaster.ac.uk.
• This request must be approved by an administrator (a human). This filter, and the requirement that you send an email rather than filling out a webform, is in place to minimise the possibility of spammers accessing the list.
• When your request is approved (all legitimate users will be approved) a confirmation email will be sent to the subscribed address. Please retain this email as it contains important directions on how to unsubscribe and who to contact with queries about the list.
• Once your request is approved you can mail the list by sending email to lastnet@lists.lancs.ac.uk. Please read the short note about sending emails to the list below.

Emailing the LaSTNet Mailing List

You may find the mailing list useful for advertising your own work, and conferences, asking questions to the list, and generating discussions.

• Sending e-mail to the list: The process is exactly the same as sending normal email. Type your message and send the email to lastnet@lists.lancs.ac.uk, you can include text in the subject line too. Once you have sent the e-mail it will be disseminated to the rest of the list.
• Replying to email (sender only): Use the 'reply' function in your email program.
• Replying to email (whole list): Use the 'reply all' function.

Unsubscribing

We'd be sad to see you go but the process is quick and easy, and does not require confirmation from the list administrator. You can always re-subscribe in the future.
To unsubscribe the email address from which you are sending the unsubscribe request follow the istructions below.

• Set your email to plaintext format
• Type the command 'unsubscribe' (without 'quotes') in the body of the email
• Send to lastnet-request@lists.lancs.ac.uk
• You will be unsubscribed from the LaSTNet mailing list.
• You may receive an email asking you to confirm the unsubscribe command. Please follow the instructions in this email.
• You can also unsubcribe by emailing lastnet@lancaster.ac.uk. This option is not automated, the list administrator will unsubscribe you.

Information sent to the list

Where a user advertises a publication or conference via the list, this information will (where appropriate) be advertised on the website in due course. If you want to advertise a publication or conference on the website you can also Tom Webb at lastnet@lancaster.ac.uk. Information posted to the site will be disseminated by email regularly.

LaSTNet will only list citations, publication information, and conference titles we do not host material though links may be provided to publisher and seller websites.

Please remember good netiquette when using email.
